Communication Is Part of the Service
By Lisa, Director at IPHM
Professionalism isn’t just about what you deliver, it’s about how you communicate while delivering it. Whether you’re offering healing sessions, coaching, photography, or any holistic service, keeping your clients informed builds trust, confidence, and lasting respect.
We’ve all been there, you invest in a service, feel excited, and then… silence.
Days turn into weeks. You’re not sure what’s happening, when to expect an update, or if your messages are being seen. Meanwhile, you notice that person posting online, clearly busy working on other things and your excitement slowly turns into frustration.Even if the final result is beautiful, those weeks of uncertainty leave a bad taste. It doesn’t matter how amazing the outcome is when communication breaks down, the experience breaks down with it.Now, this isn’t about pointing fingers. It’s a reminder for all of us (because let’s be honest, we’ve all slipped up at some point) that communication is part of the service. Clients don’t just buy a result, they buy trust, reassurance, and the feeling of being looked after. When you set clear timelines, give updates, and keep your clients in the loop, you show them respect. You tell them, “You matter. Your investment matters. I’m on this with you.”
A Few Simple Practices That Make a Big Difference:
- Set expectations upfront. Let clients know your timeframes, how long something will take and when they’ll hear from you.
- Communicate delays early. Life happens! Most people are understanding if you’re honest and proactive.
- Give gentle updates. Even a short message like “I’m still working on this for you, it’s coming along beautifully!” can reassure your client and keep the energy positive.
- Celebrate delivery. When you do hand something over, acknowledge the journey. A little appreciation goes a long way.
Why It Matters
When clients feel ignored or uncertain, it can completely overshadow the value of your work. They stop seeing your brilliance and start associating your name with frustration. But when you keep them in the loop, something shifts. They feel seen, respected, and part of the process, and that’s what turns a one-time client into a loyal advocate.
It’s not just what you deliver; it’s how you make people feel along the way.
And communication, kind, consistent, human communication is what builds the bridge between the two.
Final Thought
Your clients don’t expect perfection; they expect presence. So don’t disappear. Keep them informed, stay transparent, and honour the trust they’ve placed in you. Because being professional isn’t about doing more, it’s about showing up with care, even in the quiet in-between moments.
